Irish
racing star Michael Devaney has secured a last minute deal to race
in the prestigious Recaro German Formula 3 Cup with reigning Champions
JB Motorsport. The Double 'Motorsport Ireland Racing Driver of the
year' award winner competed in the highly competitive German Formula
BMW Championship for the past two seasons and last year scored three
race wins on his way to fourth overall in the Championship.
The German Formula 3 series has produced many F1 drivers in the
past, Reigning F1 World champion Michael Schumacher won the series
in 1990 along with Jos Verstappen in 1992, Jarno Trulli in 1996
and Nick Heidfeld in 1997.
With
the season kicking off on the 24th/25th of April at Hockenhiem in
Germany, the Dubliner is keen to make an
impression straight away ''We had originally planned to do the F3
Euroseries but their was a lack of budget, the next best championship
was the German F3 cup and we put a late deal together with top Belgian
squad JB Motorsport. Despite our late deal and lack of testing I
am confident of being able to fight for race wins and the Championship
this season. Our Goal is to move up to the F3 Euroseries for 2005
so it will be good to get some experience this year in an F3 car''
commented Michael.
The son of ex-British Formula 3 race winner Bernard, Michael will
be backed this season by his long-time sponsor www.Seahorse.ie.
Michael will be driving one of JB Motorsports Dallara F302's powered
by Spiess Opel engines throughout the championship and will get
his first taste of the car on Monday (19th April) where a two day
official test will take place. After the test the team and Michael
will be heading straight to Hockenheim where the first race will
take place the following weekend.
