Like
a month ago at Hockenheim, Chris van der Drift again showed his
driver skills during the two races for the Formula BMW ADAC Championship
this weekend. With a 7th and a 6th position at the Adria International
Raceway respectively, Vandy scored 10 valuable points
for this prestigious championship.
The
Formula BMW ADAC is, like many Formula Renault Champion-ship series,
a championship for upcoming young talented drivers. Because all
races are being held during prestigious DTM or F1 events, a large
amount of (media) attention is guaranteed.
As all contenders make use of the same chassis, engine, tyres and
fuel, only the drivers can make the difference in the Formula BMW
ADAC series.
Both
qualifying sessions initially didnt went as for tunate as
planned for the multiple go-kart champion from New-Zealand. A wrong
tyre pressure saw Kiwi qualify himself in a disappointing
17th spot for the first race on Saturday. Under wet circumstances
a fabulous performing Van der Drift however, sees chance to overtake
twelve(!) drivers in the first three laps, before he falls back
to the 7th position at the finish (because of excessive tyre wear).
In the second race on Sunday morning, the Team Rosberg-driver puts
in another memorable drive in order to finish sixth.
Van
der Drift: Because my tyres were already too much worn out
in qualifying (as a result of the wrong tyre pressure), I just couldnt
push as hard as I was wanted to do. For the championship however,
I could still do a reasonable job by bringing home 10 valuable points.
During
the Formula One Grand Prix weekend at the Nurburgring (May 28-30),
the third round of the Formula BMW ADAC Championship will take place
before the eyes of approximately 1 00.000 spectators. In the upcoming
weeks Team Rosberg and Chris van der Drift will attend another few
test sessions in order to prepare themselves for this important
event.
