Brno
With an excellent second position during the second Formula
BMW ADAC race at Brno this weekend Chris van der Drift has created
a nice opportunity to win the Rookie Cup 2004 during the season
final at Hockenheim. In the first heat on the 5.403 kilometre long
circuit Van der Drift already showed his potential by taking sixth
place. Both races were won by Sebastian Vettel, who not only was
crowned champion of the 2004 season but also became the most successful
driver in Formula BMW ADAC history!
As
all contenders make use of the same chassis, engine, tyres and fuel,
the Formula BMW ADAC Series is a solid championship for young upcoming
drivers. Because all races are being held during prestigious Formula
1 or DTM events, a large amount of (media)attention is guaranteed.
Therefore this series offers an ideal opportunity for companies
or brands to present themselves on a international platform. For

At the twisty circuit located in the southeast of the Czech Republic
Van der Drift qualified ninth and second on Saturday morning. Kiwi
showed he was more in his element as the weekend progressed. As
usual this season an excellent start in the opening heat made sure
the twelve time go-kart champion already was in sixth place after
a few metres. Despite a spectacular battle with Austrian Christopher
Wasserman, Vandy stayed sixth during the ten lap race.
With
a grid position on the first row on Sunday morning Van der Drift
only had newly crowned champion Sebastian Vettel in front of him.
Despite all efforts to overtake the young German, Vettel stayed
ahead of the Dutch New-Zealander. Sebastien Buemi came
close to Van der Drift in the final stages of the race but was not
able to take second from Van der Drift.
Chris
van der Drift: This podium and the points scored are very
welcome. Although I hoped to win the second race I am still happy
with my performance this weekend. With the lead I have at the moment
I am confident that I am able to take the Rookie Cup 2004 at Hockenheim.
During this spring I finished at the podium twice there so the prospects
are good!
