Ryan
Lewis took his 15th Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship win
of the series with a dominant lights to flag victory at the picturesque
Spa-Francorchamps circuit today (Sunday). The 19 year-old, who wrapped
up the title a fortnight ago with five races in hand, started from
pole and was never headed on his way to a six second advantage at
the flag.
At the start he made a great getaway to take two places but moved
over to let Championship Class runners James Rossiter and Alexandre
Negrao through dropping him down. With one eye on getting to the
flag in one piece following yesterday's dramas, he drove a steady
race at the head of the class to take win number 15 out of a possible
22. Fastest lap in the 11 lap race takes his total points score
to 381.
Everything went well from the start, said Ryan. I
wanted to stay out of the way of James (Rossiter) as he's fighting
for the overall championship so I wanted to give him plenty of room
and let him through at the start. Then I just got my head down and
got onto the back of Negrao but in hindsight, I should probably
not have let so many of the championship cars through and could
have finished a lot higher up overall but with all the dramas of
yesterday, I just wanted to get to the finish without any damage.
Generally it's not quite as rewarding to win when there hasn't been
much of a challenge, like I had at Thruxton say, but then to be
somewhere like Spa, my favourite track, well that is rewarding.
The Championship concludes in three weeks time on the Brands Hatch
Indy circuit in Kent where Ryan will be looking to finish the season
the way he started it - with another double victory.
