BRM Has completed a successful day of practice at Mallala raceway
today, in preparation for this weekend’s penultimate round
of the 2004 Australian Formula 3 championship at Mallala Raceway
north of Adelaide.
Cool
and overcast conditions greeted the team at Mallala raceway today,
with the forecast fine conditions for the weekend expected to produce
some scintillating times at the top of the F3 field.
The
team is confident that the three cars entered will be highly competitive
in this weekends two qualifying sessions and both races on Sunday.

Session 1: 1m05.0502 (19 Laps)
Session 2: 1m04.9899 (22 Laps)
The
current series leader completed 19 trouble free laps in session
one and 22 in the second. Despite running the same tyres as was
used at the test session last week, was content with his start to
an important weekend as far as the championship goes.
“We
were running really old tyres, and the car wasn’t great. But
it is the same set-up that we ran last week (in the test), so when
we get new tyres it should be fast.” Said Reindler.
“I’m
really looking forward to getting on to some new tyres tomorrow,
because the times should be really good.”

Session 1: 1m04.5763 (15 Laps)
Session 2: 1m04.1023 (17 Laps)
Slade,
driving the same car he tested successfully last week at Mallala,
was fastest overall in both sessions, eclipsing the practice record
substantially in both outings. The 19-year-old South Australian
Driver was happy with the car’s performance, but warned there
was more to come tomorrow.
“To
be honest, I’m disappointed that we didn’t get into the
1m03s,” said Slade. “We were bedding in some new brake
rotors today, but the car felt really good on the fresh rubber.”
He said.
#3 Nic Jordan (Trophy Class):
Session 1: 1m07.7329 (7 Laps)
Session 2: 1m05.5950 (20 Laps)
Jordan,
at Mallala hoping to wrap up the Yokohama Trophy Class this weekend,
was troubled by some small clutch problems in session one, and missed
the first 20 minutes of the session. After that, the 16-year-old
kiwi set about learning the track, having never seen the 2.6km Mallala
layout before today. In Session two Jordan cut 2.2 seconds off his
time, and established himself as a real contender for the weekend.
“I’m
really happy with the car, and I think that we have learnt a lot
today,” said Jordan. “We lost a bit of time in the first
session, and because of that I think there is much more time I can
find in the car.” He said.
“I
really enjoy driving here, it’s a great track, and I think
we can go well this weekend.”
Team
BRM Heads into this weekends round of the Australian F3 series leading
both classes (Championship / outright and Yokohama Trophy), and
will be looking to consolidate their championship positions with
strong race results over the weekend here at Mallala.
That
Process can start in tomorrows two qualifying sessions, which will
decide the starting order for both of Sunday’s races –
one point is awarded to the pole sitter in each class for each of
the two qualifying sessions.
Karl
Reindler currently leads the championship by 4 points, whilst Nic
Jordan only needs 12 to wrap up the Trophy Class.
